The text depicts a variety of real life events on how people carry out activities of daily living. It clearly demonstrates the different kinds of individuals who exist in the society. For instance, the gap between the poor and the rich in the society where at first Ali shared a room with the narrator of the story but after moving to America, they were able to have their rooms. The reading brought out the most emotional reaction for me. I felt empathy towards the narrator where other children ask where his parents slept. He felt embarrassed and tried to escape the question (Bahrampour, 2000). He even wishes for the community school to dissolve so as to avoid the embarrassment as most kids go to well-built schools. The intended audience for this piece is those who like desiring other people's lives and feel like giving up. Looking at the available piece, it seems the author wrote it during the war between America and Iran, where so many peoples were forced to seek refuge in the United States from Iran.
